The Birthwheel

Childbirth is a unique moment in every woman's life. It is the all mothers' wish that it proceeds without complications and they want the child to be born healthy. Therefore, we strive to create in our Clinic the best possible conditions to help women with a delivery. Thus, we equipped the delivery room with modern childbirth bed, called the 'birthwheel', which enables woman to give birth in a natural position.

The 'birthwheel' is a newest invention from Switzerland - a new type of childbirth bed, which allows women taking any position during childbirth. This modern delivery-chair was designed in a special way. It is equipped with comfortable cushioned seat, and a built-in motor which allows the seat to recline to any angle. Woman can change the arrangement of the body to more comfortable at any time in the course of the delivery by using the remote control. A great convenience is the ability to give birth in a vertical position - standing, or kneeling, which is considered by experts as the most natural. It promises easier and more enjoyable childbirth thanks to the help of gravity.

The upright position is the normal form of delivery in most parts of the world, with mothers adopting a sitting, crouching, kneeling or suspended position. Mother is free to adopt any position she chooses, because the birthwheel permits a great deal of movement. The upright posture centers the lumbar vertebral column with the pelvis, resulting in a straighter birth canal. This encourages dilation of the cervix and descent of the baby into the pelvis, accelerating and easing delivery.

This way of birth is the most natural one. It was practiced several thousand years ago. The oldest discovered rock drawings depicting childbirth - dated to the period 10 000 years BC - present a woman giving birth in standing position.

The delivery at the birthwheel is possible only in a few hospitals in Poland. Abroad, this type of birth bed is very popular and already used in more than 100 Clinics in Europe and Japan.
